Ok i have a vb 3.8 forum with vbadvanced at present but i am getting realy confused reading articles everywhere sayong that i cannot move my 3.8 files into vb4 yet i can simply install phpBB3 and do a convert and hey presto all my files are running!.
Can somebody help please as i think i would rather keep vbull if i can still have a cms style website around my forum!

Does anybody here do it ?? if so please pm a price!

I just recently bought VB suite 4 and got round to installing it today. I host with a very crappy company at the moment called UKREG or Fasthosts and their Cpanel is their own one rather than the standard cpanel most people get, therefore setting up a mysql database was a little harder than usual as im not use to creating it on that panel.


Anyway I came to install it and came across this error;
I checked over the database and I have entered the information in the config.php correctly as I doubled checked.

One thing which may be causing the problem is that the database is a MS SQL rather than MY SQL.

I was able to upgrade my 3.8.4 install successfully for the most part. However, when I visit the site/admin panel, i get:

ANy insight? Help should be much appreciated.

I have two programs I am trying to add to my forum site www.ourmwl.com

1. vBadvanced for the cmps. I have it uploaded but its not working right and under the admin cp, its all distorted. Apparently I have to change the ASCII to Binary mode? I do not understand that.

2. Cometchat - After messing up the vBadvanced program. I am now at a loss of what to do to add the cometchat to my site as well. I do not understand the chmod 777 thing. That makes NO SENSE.

I have sent in support tickets and even called my hosting site godaddy and no one has given me and help. I'm at my wits end and I need to get these programs set up to my account ASAP! Like by TODAY. I promised my members and I have been trying to get these programs to work for the past 2 weeks.

I am just wondering when is the best time to actually upgrade to vb4? There seems to be alot of bugs still being worked out etc so I don't want to leave something that is working something that is not.

So would be be better to wait till the next patch release or 4.0.5 etc, what do you think?

I am ready to upgrade but I would like to know if the following can be done.

1 - Copy the current 3.8.x install DB.
2 - Create a test environment from the 3.8.x DB snapshot while the 3.8.x forum remains activated.
3 - Set up the test environment, template, etc. and create all my CMS articles, etc.
4 - Testing successful, ready to go live
5 - Turn off the 3.8 install

- Is it then possible to inject the latest snapshot of the 3.8 DB (all the posts, threads, users, PMs, etc.) into my test install without losing all my settings, CMS articles, etc? If so, what is the process to do it?

I just patched two of my forums.

the first went perfect.

the second went fine too, however the admin panel shows 4.0.4 pl1 installed, but the footer of the forums page shows 4.0.3


what happened and how do i fix that?
