Posted by: | CommentsHi, vb team
Please consider to add these useful features:
1. Similar Articles in CMS. I know two guys had posted this requirement. This feature let people know more similar information.
http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?344522
http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?329973
2. Bookmarks in articles, just like bookmarks in blog entries. This feature makes people share CMS articles and Blog entries with their friends.
3. Thumb Up and Down in CMS articles and Blog entries. This feature is very useful for those who do not want to type keyboard.
There is a sample image below.

API for User name and Password
Posted by: | CommentsCan vBulletin not provide us with a API so that sharing Logon and Passwords with other applications will be easier to handle. We now have to alter the software of vBulletin or 3th party software to share login and password information.
This is requested for many years its about time that we would get this.
I have put it in the tracker http://tracker.vbulletin.com/browse/VBIV-7841

CMS Widgetsuggestion – Frontend editable HTML Widget
Posted by: | CommentsIt would be great, if we would have a HTML Widget, where the content could be set on the frontpage, from EVERY Usergroup, which was set in the ACP.
ACP-> Widget Configuration:
Multiple Inputfield where we can set the usergroups(or maybe userids) which should be able to edit it.
Frontpage: A Edit button(for example instead of the funny php/html icon) visible for everybody who can edit it..
When he clicks on it, the editor opens and they can change the content.
Scenario where i would use it:
Important news which are changing "fast". ATM only admins can change it...
I don't want to allow users to be admins and to be able to change the cms settings, because i only wish to allow them to edit the one widget.
Just something like the php execution content type, but just as a widget!
I hope you know what i mean, sorry for my english ;)

Forums ban ip from Moderation Tools
Posted by: | CommentsI would like to see this added.
When we remove spam via the Moderation Tools and have the option to ban user permanently, having their ip added to the ban list in that option would be very useful.
Right now we have to go into acp banning options and add it there. It would be good if we could accomplish that at the time we remove the user on the forum.

SEO Replace all instances of "Specified" words with specified words+word=link
Posted by: | CommentsI'm not sure if that title was clear, something I have been looking for through forum software is actually quite similar to the bad word filter, which as most people know, when a user posts a bad word, the admin is a preset GOOD word, or whatever, kind of word, that will automatically replace that bad word, preventing profanity in the posts of users. a Very nice feature.
What would be extremely beneficial and possibly an easy mod,
the ability to replace "specified" words, with "the word used" which contains a link.
for example if
bill joe posts
I sure love vbulletin!!!
it would be posted something like this
I sure love vbulletin <-vbulletin, would contain a link, to vbulletin.com
lets say there is a video section and someone makes a post say
i sure love videos!
with this mod, the word videos, could contain a link, to the videos section of the website which to forum is hosted on..
there is some other thing iv seen that is similar but when you drag the mose over it a popup box comes up with an ad,,, thats lame... dont do that..
so year thats my suggestion, i think it would help a lot of seo with back links, and easy access to areas that are being discussed in the forum....
what do you all think??

Testing
Posted by: | CommentsHere are two suggestions, maybe slightly left field for you guys, but let me run it by you and see how it goes.
1) Test the software before releasing it.
When I say test, I mean alpha test in house for a good 6 months then do extensive beta testing to iron out any bugs, fix all of the bugs then issue a release candidate and go through a second round of testing before announcing an official release.
I know its old fashioned, time consuming and worst of all, hard work, but my little software company has had great success with this method for many years as have much larger organisations. It's not fool proof, but it does at least minimise the pain our customers have to go through.
2) Get the current release stable and as bug free as humanly possible before rushing into enhancements. When introducing enhancements, you have to go through the WHOLE of the testing procedure again.
That's all. When upgrading to 4.04 as i have just done, i expect there to be fewer bugs than in the previous version, not more. I expect the ridiculous data base errors to have been sorted; i expect the software to have been extensively tested. We know, for sure, that it hasn't been. Had the software been through a proper beta test you would not have released it in its current state.

Copy And Paste Code
Posted by: | CommentsYou shouldn't use/copy ;) the methods from one class to an other.
For example:
- D:\xampp\xampp\htdocs\vb404\includes\class_picture comment.php:282-353
D:\xampp\xampp\htdocs\vb404\includes\class_visitor message.php:302-373
- D:\xampp\xampp\htdocs\vb404\includes\class_picture comment.php:356-377
D:\xampp\xampp\htdocs\vb404\includes\class_visitor message.php:377-398
- D:\xampp\xampp\htdocs\vb404\includes\class_picture comment.php:397-423
D:\xampp\xampp\htdocs\vb404\includes\class_visitor message.php:418-444
Why not provide a abstract class "comment/message" which provides this methods?
This would provide a much cleaner, easier to manage code.
I've run an c&p detection tool on vB404 code and found
0.71% duplicated lines out of 383599 total lines of code.
OK It's not much and it's old code whcih will be refacored sometime, but it would be less work to support the code after the refactory
in the vB4 code it's much more;)
packages direcotory: 1.45% duplicated lines out of 57970 total lines of code.
If i'm not wrong this are 800 LOC (lines of code)
For example:
Quote:
- D:\xampp\xampp\htdocs\vb404\includes\class_picture comment.php:282-353
D:\xampp\xampp\htdocs\vb404\includes\class_visitor message.php:302-373
